A 100 MWac battery energy storage system (BESS) in Texas, US has entered commercial operation after completing the regulatory and cybersecurity requirements needed for grid-connected assets of its scale.
The Bexar Battery Energy Storage System, developed by Goshe Energy Storage, achieved its Commercial Operations Date (COD) on 12 Mar 2026 following ERCOT III approval. The project then completed its North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) registration on 20 Mar 2026, supported by Radian Generation’s compliance and cybersecurity services.
Located in Bexar County, the facility is designed to deliver 100 MWac of capacity to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid, helping strengthen system reliability as renewable energy deployment continues to accelerate across the state.
Because the project exceeds the 75 MVA registration threshold, it was required to register as a NERC Category 1 Generation Owner (GO), triggering a range of mandatory reliability, operational and cybersecurity obligations before entering service.
Working alongside Goshe Energy Storage during the final stages of commissioning, Radian Generation supported the project through the NERC registration process by validating engineering controls, verifying technical alignment, establishing operating procedures and implementing the cybersecurity measures required under the NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.

As the project approached commercial operation, Radian worked with the project owner, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, and Generator Operator (GOP) to review technical documentation, operational technology architecture and as-built system configurations. The process was aimed at ensuring the facility met NERC compliance requirements from day one of operation.
The project highlights the growing importance of integrating regulatory compliance and cybersecurity planning into utility-scale battery storage developments as grid operators tighten reliability requirements for critical energy infrastructure.
Following the project’s registration and commercial launch, Radian Generation will continue providing ongoing NERC compliance and cybersecurity support for the Bexar BESS.
