Dutch membrane technology company NX Filtration has partnered with Beijing Xinxin Oasia Environmental Protection Equipment to deploy an advanced water reuse solution for a major steel producer in northern China, marking another step towards circular water management in one of the country’s most water-intensive industries.

The collaboration will combine Beijing Xinxin Oasia’s industrial wastewater treatment expertise with NX Filtration’s direct hollow fiber nanofiltration (HFNF) membrane technology to upgrade the steelmaker’s concentrate water treatment system.

The project aims to recover and reuse water from high-salinity wastewater streams generated during steel production, helping the facility reduce freshwater withdrawals, lower wastewater discharge and improve the sustainability of its operations.

Industrial concentrate streams are among the most difficult wastewater sources to treat due to their high salt content and complex mix of contaminants. NX Filtration said its HFNF membranes selectively remove organic compounds, colour, micropollutants and specific salts while maintaining high water recovery and relatively low energy consumption, allowing treated water to be recycled back into the production process.

The partnership comes as industrial manufacturers face growing pressure to improve water efficiency, meet stricter environmental regulations and adopt resource recovery strategies.
